In 1972, with fewer cars overall but even fewer organised transport options, the roads would have been jammed or closed for the procession. Public transport in rural Cornwall was sparse. In the early 70s, bus routes across Cornwall had already been cut back. Evening or holiday services were especially thin. If you missed the one bus that might have run, you were on your own.
